SPLAT offset its carbon footprint by planting forests with the PosadiLes.ru project

October 21, 2017 on the territory of the natural park "Volgo-Akhtubinskaya floodplain" the company SPLAT with the support of volunteers from the ECA movement, planted the final batch of 2,000 pedunculate oak and tartar maple seedlings to offset its 2016 carbon footprint. The action was held within the framework of the PosadiLes.ru project. In addition to the ECA Movement volunteers from different regions, the action was attended by business representatives, as well as schoolchildren of the Volgograd region. They planted trees along the channel connecting Yerik Kashirin with Lake Damned.

Last year, on this site, the Committee for Natural Resources, Forestry and Ecology of the Volgograd Region completed a large-scale work on environmental rehabilitation, which included dredging and cleaning the Kashirin river and its channels from bottom sediments, as well as biogenic consolidation of coastal slopes and landscaping. Planting new trees will not only improve the ecological state of the rehabilitated section of the floodplain, but will also create favorable conditions for recreation and ecological tourism.

“We all know that the Volga-Akhtubinskaya floodplain is the lungs of Volgograd and the Volzhsky city. A few years ago, fires caused great damage to this area, when oak forests were badly damaged. Therefore, we plant pedunculated oak and Tatar maple. In the coming years, we will monitor and care for the seedlings, ”says Roman Potolovskiy, regional leader of the ECA Movement in the Volgograd region.

For the Volgograd region, the Volga-Akhtubinskaya floodplain acts as a regulator of the atmospheric air composition in the cities of Volgograd and Volzhsky. In terms of the totality of indicators, the ecological systems of the floodplain are assigned to the first category of international importance of specially protected natural areas.
