On April 14, on the territory of the Volgo-Akhtubinskaya Poima Natural Park (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve), as part of the ECA reforestation program, 2,000 trees were planted in an oak forest that burned out last year on the bank of the Gnilaya river. The plantings were organized by the PosadiLes.ru reforestation service with the support of SPLAT, which compensates for its carbon footprint.
In 2016, more than 400 hectares of the territory of the natural park, including oak groves, were traversed by fires, which negatively affected the ecological situation in the region. In place of burnt trees in the oak grove, a thousand English oak saplings and a thousand Tatar maple saplings. The planting area was specially prepared by the park staff, who will carry out the subsequent care of the seedlings.
About a hundred activists took part in the plantings, among them were representatives of public organizations, local residents, students and schoolchildren.
“Our planting of the forest has become the most striking and useful event of this weekend. We restored about 2 hectares of the natural park, where 2000 seedlings were restored by volunteers and residents of the city. This place will again become a beautiful oak tree! ", - noted the coordinator of PosadiLes.ru in the Volgograd region Roman Potolovsky.

This spring, similar plantings to compensate for the SPLAT carbon footprint will take place in 2 more regions: on May 19 in the Republic of Udmurtia (4,000 seedlings) and on May 26 in the Irkutsk region (11,000 seedlings).
